Dr Rosa Vivas LaPointe is also currently a member of the board of directors of a Mexican charity - Ayuda a los Niños Costalegre A.C. This charity was formed to help with the medical and educational needs of underprivileged children of the Costalegre.

In Melaque there are several laboratories for medical analysis, whilst in nearby Manzanillo there are several hospitals all equipped with operating theatres and facilities for more complex clinical tests.
